Don’t let people think that we are psychopaths by thinking that we are afraid to face mental illness. We know that the present age is of technology; bodies of people have many resources; along with this, mental diseases are also spreading a lot. Indeed, for every disease, both prayer and medicine are important. Then, from the time that passed, from 2016-17, the psychology term was given a lot of importance. Human psychology is something, and these mental problems, like in the absence of a person, that person is seen or his voice is heard. Either getting too angry or having a temper tantrum are all mental illnesses. And when research was done on these diseases, it came out that they are caused by the unbalancing of brain chemicals in our brain.
According to research, 35% of mostly adults consider mental illness to be a cause of shame and are afraid to face it because people will make fun of them. When people find out that the patient’s family suffers from depression, they will think that our child’s character is bad. They do not motivate the patient for treatment. When the family decides to treat the patient and takes steps during the treatment, this thought comes to their mind: I don’t know what people will think of my child; they will think of him as psychotic, and no one will marry him or her.
The patient and his family should understand that the disease is natural and it is neither your fault nor the fault of the family. And understanding this thing should be supported for treatment. So that both the patient and the family know about the disease and can move towards the patient’s recovery. His family should be optimistic and play an important role in the treatment to make the treatment effective and also motivate the patient. Because they do not have a hand in making the patient sick, the family has an important role in recovery. So accept these diseases to gain peace and come to terms with oneself and past wounds related to shame, which one is not responsible for.
How to overcome this opprobrium:
Sadaqat Clinic Karachi is working on this very important topic of how to eliminate toxic shame from people. How can people accept the truth and move forward? Through our stakeholder session, we make people aware of this toxic shame, tell its disadvantages, in which the family also actively participates, and tell their stories about what losses they have incurred due to this toxic shame, how He lied to people, and now what do they feel about this information, and what should they have done at that time. After which we tell them the steps to get out of this shame and how to end it.
One of the significant and cogent factors is the stigma associated with being afraid to face mental illness.
People shy away from facing mental illnesses because of this. Because the people who have faced mental illnesses in front of them were not looked at favourably, various things were said about them, and jokes were made, due to which people are afraid of facing this disease. But this is not the solution; the disease should be left alone, and it has other disadvantages. So it is better to resort to treatment and fight the disease. Only after we come to the treatment do we realize that we are not the only ones who are struggling with these mental diseases, but other people like us are going through the same phase. In this way, the motivation to make the treatment effective and to fight it also increases.
Misunderstanding and lack of education are some of the main reasons behind this stigma to face mental illness:
Due to a lack of education, people are unable to understand in today’s era how much mental illness can take away peace from a person’s life and lead to restlessness and also family members in a separate depression. Brings trouble. Because people consider it magic or the reason of sight. And when they come for treatment, the training of the whole family continues. They are given a full explanation of the disease, what happens in the disease, and what the family has done wrong, such as support and encouragement from the family because they are suffering from the disease at that time. They knew that they were worried about the condition of the patient, but now, even after receiving treatment, when they are given information about the disease, whenever many people in the family still do not consider the disease to be a disease, it is not Do not cooperate in the treatment of the patient for good recovery. It can also be their lack of education and cultural barriers.
Willing ways and their concerns about ending this toxic shame:
Sadaqat Clinic trains both the family and the patient during treatment. The body informs both the patient and the family about the disease. Apart from this, he conducts classes and other types of activities in the indoor sessions of the patients so that they are encouraged and do not think of their illness as a failure of their luck or future failure. The family also should not believe that it is their or their child’s character disorder due to which they cannot live with their heads up.
