Becoming anxious is a normal reaction to the everyday challenges that we face in our everyday life. It is a normal body response to the danger we face and helps in alerting the body to take action against the perceived danger. But when this worry starts interfering in our daily life activity and causes disturbance in our social, occupational and relationships these are the alarming signs of anxiety disorder.

If the disorder remains untreated it can lead to many other psychological disorders such as depression, and increases the tendencies to get involved in different types of drug use. It can create a devastating effect on our relationships, our job performance and many other areas of our life.

Symptoms Observed In Anxiety Disorder

Generally the symptoms observed in the anxiety disorders include feeling of irritability, sleep issues.  inability to concentrate, fatigue, muscle tensions, anticipation of the worst, feelings of restlessness, and feeling of mind going blank.

Management

For the management of anxiety disorders we adopt an eclectic approach. In which different therapeutic techniques best suited to the client’s condition are adopted and implemented in a supportive and empathic manner.

Medication

Medications are used in conjunction with the therapy. Depending on the severity of the symptoms medications are provided for short term or long term period of time. The variety of medications prescribed depending on the depiction of the problem include Benzodiazepines, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors(SSRIs), and Tricyclic Antidepressants.

Relaxation Exercise

Deep breathing, meditation and 16 progressive muscle relaxation exercises can help in reducing the symptoms of anxiety and promote feelings of relaxation and emotional well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

It is a highly effective and well established therapy that can be used with the patient’s suffering from anxiety disorders. In this therapy we focus on identifying of the problem, understanding of the situation and changing the thinking patterns of the client that addresses the problematic behavior.

Exposure Therapy

This therapy is effectively used for reducing the responses that results due to the undue fears and anxiety. Person is gradually exposed to the situation which he or she fears and become less sensitive to it over the passage of time.

Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT)

This therapy combines both acceptance to the problem and helps the people to bring change in their lives. It is usually done with the help of both individual and group therapies in which the client is made mindful of the problem and skills are taught to them to improve the interpersonal relationships, ability to tolerate stress and help them regulate their emotions.
